The difference between engraving and milling machines, engraving machines, and machining centers

Time:2023-10-18 Preview:

In terms of appearance and volume

The machining center has the largest volume, with a large 1690 machine having a volume of 4m * 3m and a small 850 machine having a volume of 2.5m * 2.5m; The engraving and milling machine takes the second place, and the larger 750 machine is generally at 2.2m * 2m; The engraving machine is the smallest.

From a mechanical structure perspective

The machining center generally adopts a cantilever type, and the carving and milling machines and carving machines generally use a gantry structure. The gantry structure is divided into pillar type and fixed beam type. Currently, the carving and milling machines are mostly of fixed beam type.

From the perspective of indicator data

Maximum spindle speed (r/min): machining center 8000; The most common carving and milling machine is 240000, and the minimum for high-speed machines is 30000; Engraving machines are generally the same as engraving and milling machines. Engraving machines used for high gloss processing can reach 80000, but they do not use ordinary electric spindles but air floating spindles.

Spindle power: The machining center is the largest, ranging from several thousand watts to tens of kilowatts; Engraving and milling machines take second place, usually within ten kilowatts; The engraving machine is the smallest.

Cutting amount: The machining center is the largest, especially suitable for heavy cutting and rough cutting; Carving and milling machines take second place, suitable for precision machining; The engraving machine is the smallest.

Speed: Due to the lightweight nature of both engraving and milling machines, their movement and feed speeds are faster than those of machining centers, especially high-speed machines equipped with linear motors, which can move up to 120m/min

Accuracy: The accuracy of the three is similar.

From the perspective of machining size, the workbench area can better reflect this. The smallest workbench area (in mm, the same below) for domestic machining centers (computer gongs) is 830 * 500 (850 machines); The maximum workbench area of the engraving and milling machine is 700 * 620 (750 machines), and the minimum is 450 * 450 (400 machines); Engraving machines generally do not exceed 450 * 450, and the common one is 45 * 270 (250 machines).

From the perspective of application objects, machining centers are processing equipment used to complete workpieces with large milling quantities, large molds, materials with relatively high hardness, and are also suitable for rough cutting of ordinary molds; Engraving and milling machines are used for precision machining of small milling quantities and small molds, suitable for processing copper, graphite, etc; Low end engraving machines tend to process low hardness boards such as wood, dual color boards, and acrylic boards, while high-end ones are suitable for polishing and polishing chips, metal shells, and other materials.
